Gibbs, Miyanji Receive 2003 Joe J. Eassa, Jr. Scholarship at PBA



WEST PALM BEACH -
Anthony Gibbs of Wellington and Sarah Miyanji of Kenya were awarded the Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Joe J. Eassa Jr. Scholarship for 2003.
Gibbs has more than 20 years of corporate business experience. He began the MBA program at Palm Beach Atlantic in January 2002.
Miyanji, a citizen of Kenya, came to the United States to complete a bachelor’s degree in business at Northwood University. She began the MBA program at Palm Beach Atlantic in August 2002, and is pursing a concentrating in marketing.
The university’s MBA Association established the scholarship in honor of Dr. Joe J. Eassa, professor of graduate business studies, and his 25 years of service to the university. A native of West Palm Beach, Dr. Eassa’s early career included top-level managerial positions in local government. He was honored with the West Palm Beach City Commissioner’s Award of Merit. Subsequently, he served as an executive in commercial banking, the savings and loan industry, and in the mortgage-banking field. He then returned to graduate school (Nova Southeastern University) to prepare for a professional management consulting and academic career.
Dr. Eassa joined PBA in the 1970s as an adjunct instructor, which became a full-time position as an assistant professor of business administration in 1977. Along with his teaching responsibilities, he held other positions with the college over the years including Assistant to the President, Dean of Administrative and Financial Affairs and Acting Executive Vice President. He is a member of the Academy of Management, the recipient of the Ann Gold Distinguished Professor Award (1988) and was designated the Alexander Proudfoot Skills Professor of Business (1988). In 1989, Dr. Eassa launched the Graduate Business Studies Program and was named director of the MBA program.
Palm Beach Atlantic University is a comprehensive Christian university in downtown West Palm Beach with an enrollment of 2,800. Founded in 1968, PBA offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
